We are excited to be re-presenting Georgina Starr’s FVU-commissioned work Quarantaine (2020) on FVU Watch this month. In the film, two women, initially strangers, form a deep bond as they venture into a mysterious parallel universe; within a hidden house of instruction, they encounter a series of trials, alongside others seeking enlightenment. Under the watchful eye of a disembodied oracle, Pearl Mama One, they must adhere to her strict code of guidance. Only by listening to her shifting, cryptic words can they unlock "super-vision" and ascend to a higher plane of consciousness.

Captivating and beguiling, Quarantaine extends Starr’s longstanding fascination with the esoteric and the uncanny and offers a dazzling meditation on the alternate realities and grand illusions of cinema.

To accompany Quarantaine (2020) featuring on FVU Watch, you can read a specially commissioned essay by curator Dominic Paterson. Paterson explores the rich layers of the work and reflects on the enduring influences that continue to resonate throughout Starr’s artistic practice, shedding light on the connections and themes that have shaped her creative journey.
