Patrick Hough's Jerwood/FVU Awards film, And If In A Thousand Years shows at Aesthetica Film Festival as part of the programme: Experimental 2: Listen to Me.
Commissioned under the curatorial theme Neither One Thing or Another, the film explores the realms between real and replica. This spirit of uncertainty is encapsulated by the figure of a film prop - a sphinx that was once part of a majestic film-set and was then buried beneath the sand dunes of California. The cat re-emerges as an archaeological artefact in ghostly limbo, haunting the nearby town like a wildcat on the prowl.
