Artists’ Film International: Patrick Hough, John Skoog, Ørjan Amundsen
Patrick Hough's 2017 Jerwood/FVU Awards film And If In A Thousand Years shows as part of Whitechapel Gallery's Artists' Film International. The 2018 edition focuses on the theme of 'truth’, with each of the selected works exploring a relationship between fact and fiction.
In Patrick Hough's film, the point of departure is the discovery of Cecile B. de Mille’s film set for The Ten Commandments, which lay buried under the sand dunes of California for nearly 90 years. And If In A Thousand Years combines location footage with CGI and laser-scanning technology to stage the 'awakening' of a prop from the original film.
Artists’ Film International at Whitechapel Gallery is a collaborative project featuring film, video and animation from around the world. Showing alongside And If In A Thousand Years are Shadowland (2014) by John Skoog and Life is Like (2015) by Ørjan Amundsen.
