FVU Director Steven Bode will be chairing the afternoon keynote session from 2 - 3.15pm with presentations by: Professor Valerie Preston Dunlop, Kurt Schwitters and Rudolf Laban’s proposals for an experimental dance theater project for Mancheser in 1947; Michael Nyman – ANNA BLUME, proposal for a new opera about Kurt Schwitters’ poetic muse; Alan Sonfist – MERZ Orchard, proposal for a land art project based on the dialogue between Schwitters and landscape gardener Harry Pierce.
In 2012 FVU commissioned the project MerzBank, in which we asked artists to create new online works considering how Schwitters’ mercurial spirit might have flourished in the online world, while highlighting the debt that new forms of digital collage owe to Schwitters’ formative example.
