Rene Matić's new FVU commission Many Rivers launches at South London Gallery this autumn. It forms part of their solo exhibition upon this rock, which represents a further continuation of Matić's work on subculture, family and British identity.

Many Rivers is an intimate, moving portrait of the artist’s father, Paul, and the struggles he has faced, that opens out into a stark and sobering exposure of the divisive, destructive strictures of race and class in post-war Britain.

Many Rivers (2022) by Rene Matić was commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella as part of BEYOND #2.

  • The SLG has step-free access throughout its gallery spaces, Clore Studio, café, and gardens
  • Accessible toilets are available by the Main Gallery, in Crane’s Kitchen, in the Clore Studio and in the Fire Station
  • Baby change facilities are also available by the Main Gallery, in Crane’s Kitchen and in the Clore Studio
  • All toilets in the SLG Fire Station are gender neutral. In the Main Building gender neutral toilets are available by the Main Gallery, in Crane’s Kitchen and in the Clore Studio
  • Information about current exhibitions and events are available in large print. Large print information can be found in the leaflet boxes outside of the galleries
  • Chairs are available to borrow in the exhibition spaces by asking a member of staff
  • Crane’s Kitchen has indoor and outdoor seating
  • Guide, access assistant and hearing dogs are welcome in all areas of the South London Gallery
  • Magnifying glasses, ear protectors, ear plugs and a folding wheelchair are available to borrow, please ask a member of the SLG team
  • Disabled people can request a free ticket for a person accompanying them to an event by calling or emailing the SLG team at mail@southlondongallery.org
