Wuhan Punk will show as part of a new solo exhibition by Chris Zhongtian Yuan at Reading International, entitled 'Home is Where the Music Is'.
Commissioned by FVU during the Covid-19 lockdown, Wuhan Punk combines archive material with digital animation to ponder the current whereabouts of Mai Dian, the charismatic frontman of Wuhan punk group Si Dou Le.
Yuan's exhibition marks the launch of a new work, which explores the possibility of archiving, fictionalizing and reconstructing individual memory and collective resistance, in relation to both psychological and physical structures across time and space.
Wuhan Punk (2020) was commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella as part of BEYOND.
